Le Havre, le 5th July 1918
Dear Mother,
Here
we are back among the French and they are still the same - courteous and appreciative
as can be. We have been seeing a little of the town this morning and went
to the general market among other places. Some of the women recognized us
as Americans and after that, every stand we wanted to see or stopped to look
at, pressed us with samples of their fruits, etc.
We had a very quiet trip coming across, but got our first touch of bugs in the bunks. Somebody yelled out in the night about the boat rocking and an answer came back: "Oh, that's just those damned cooties turning you over".
I am sorry these notes are so short, but I just scribble in the odd moments.
