Encyclia: Found in Minas Gerais, Alagoas, Sergipe and Pernambuco states of Brazil and Surinam as a medium sized, hot to warm growing lithophyte or epiphyte near the coast on low bushes at elevations around 280 to 900 meters on rock outcroppings or an epiphyte low on small Velozia bushes along rivers and streams with roots going into sand with conic, elongate pseudobulbs enveloped basally by evanescent sheaths and carries 2 apical, coriaceous, smooth, oblong-lanceolate acute, cymbidiform leaves and blooms in the spring and again in the fall in Brazil on an erect, terminal, 12 to 16" [30 to 40 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with lanceolate stem clasping bracts and simultaneously opening flowers with no discernable scent. Caularthron bicornutum: Grow Caularthron bicornutum in small pots or baskets with a medium-grade epiphyte mixture. Provide warm temperatures, very bright to full light, and regular watering throughout the year. The roots should dry out fully between waterings. Care should be taken to avoid over-potting or too frequent watering as the root system doesn't respond well to disturbance or a decomposed medium. Plants also grow well mounted providing that watering needs can be met. Those living in frost-free climates can use it as a landscape subject. Attach divisions firmly to thin canopy trees. -
