Common Name Glaucous Beaked Laelia Flower Size to 5" [12 cm] This genus was created by the removal of two species from Brassavola because they differed in their Cattleya-like psuedobulbs and leaf and in differences in the flower structure. They are epiphytes from Central America and the Caribbean and need a humid, but not heavily watered, bright, tightly potted in a small container or mounted, and ample fertilizer. ----------- A medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte that is from Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas states of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras in open mountainous forests at elevations of 700 to 1600 meters with short, oblong-fusiform, slightly compressed pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, oblong-elliptic, coriaceous, glaucous, obtuse apically leaf that blooms on an erect, 4" [10 cm]long, single flowered inflorescence arising on a newly forming pseudobulb with a fragrant long lasting flower subtended by a large tubular sheath, occuring in the spring. Mount this species on tree fern with plenty of bright light, warm to hot temperatures and plenty of water, althougha drying out is necessary between waterings
